Reading – 7th and 8th grade – complete the novel Tuck Everlasting, watch the remaining section of the movie, answer comprehension questions

Wednesday-Friday – The students will be given the end of the year Reading  Benchmarks.

English – Monday – Friday

Students will be given the end of the year Writing benchmarks.

Reading – English – 6th grade

The students will be given the end of the year Reading and Writing benchmarks. The students will complete a section a day.

 

Jan. 28-Feb.1, 2013

Monday and Tuesday

Students will be taking the CLASS Writing assessment. This may take longer than two days.

Wednesday – Friday – Reading

Students will read selected stories and answer the comprehension questions.

Wednesday – Friday – English

Poetry – End Rhyme and Similie

Reading

Students will read aloud teacher selected stories and apply reading strategies to complete comprehension questions.


English

Figurative Language – Personification

Teacher will read the definition of personification and add it to the word wall.

Personification activity

Students will chose cards with objects named on them: furniture, an aspect of the weather, a toy, a building, a season.

Students will chose cards with a verb to go with it: takes, hopes, remembers, listens to ,tells, feels like, brings, dances, looks forward to, reminds, looks for, shows, helps, wants to.

They will have something like chair/remembers.

Now, they will expand this into a sentence. Ex. The chair remembers when it was new.

The children can extend this by asking asking questions about their sentence. Who, What, Why, Where, When, How, Which?

Show You Tube of New York City Subway

Read aloud City Dawn from Poem Maker, Word Shaker. The class will identify the lines of personification used in the poem.

Students will write a poem using personification.

Friday

Students will read  4 poems and identify the lines of personification used in the writings.

Students will complete the packet on dictionary skills.

 

 

 

 

 

Dec. 17-21, 2012 *Early Release Thursday and Friday

All English classes will be reviewing for the semester final Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday

Reading class – Students will read aloud to the  teacher a selected story and answer the comprehension questions.

We have completed the Reading Assessments!!

Students will read aloud their assigned stories to the teacher and complete the comprehension questions. Students are working on increasing fluency, vocabulary development, and story components.

Friday the students will be given a one minute running record on the weekly story.

The students will be  working on their I.E.P. objectives.

September 10-14, 2012 – Reading

6th grade – see Writing lesson plans

Students will be creating a research project. This project will take 5-8 days to complete.

Tuesday

All classes will continue CLASS assessments.

Wednesday

Continue with CLASS assessment

Thursday

Complete CLASS assessments

Friday

Teacher will introduce a new ELA game. Class will play game with teacher.
