All students will be working towards grade level TEKS according to their IEPs.

The students will be given a writing prompt and develop their paper using the writing process. I will be conferencing with the students daily. This assignment will take all week.

Students will read a teacher selected story and answer the comprehension questions.

Thursday and Friday – Students will be given the reading CLASS assessment.

May 5 – 9, 2014

All students will be working towards grade level TEKs according to their IEPs.

Monday – Students will write Plot vocabulary terms from the word wall. They will need to study the terms for Friday’s test. Notes will NOT be used on this test.

Review WWW What=2 How=2 chart

Students will read teacher selected stories. They will have all week to complete the story and answer the comprehension questions.

Tuesday – Students will begin write a story summary of Number the Stars using the format of the WWW What=2How=2.

Review Plot chart – practice placing the elements in the correct section

Wednesday – Read with teacher, make revisions and edits to  story summary, review vocabulary terms and Plot chart

Thursday – Write final copy of story summary, review vocabulary terms and plot chart

Friday – Vocabulary  and Plot chart test, story summary due.

 

 

Feb. 18-21, 2014 **Monday is President’s Day – Off

Tuesday – Topic sentence  and parts of a paragraph. Class will view www. Studyzone.org

Wednesday – Students will select topic sentences to the corresponding short paragraphs. Green book pgs. 122-123

Thursday – Details in the body of a paragraph – Green book pgs. 124-125

Friday – Test – Parts of a Paragraph, Parts of a Friendly Letter, topic sentences

Introduce autobiography, discuss details required in writing an autobiography. Class will read together the autobiography, The Firefighter.

Tuesday

Students will begin their personal autobiography using a chart.

Students will read with  the teacher selected stories.

Nov. 18-22, 2013 Reading and English

Students will be working towards grade level TEKS according to their IEPs.

Reading – Monday – Tuesday

Students will read aloud teacher selected stories and answer comprehension questions.

English – Commas in a Series – Yellow book pgs. 274 & 275, Green book pgs. 286 & 287,

Combining Sentences – FANBOYS words, Green book pgs. 32 & 33

Wednesday – Friday – Students will conduct an investigation and gather information to support the view, “What Was the First Thanksgiving Really Like?”

  • Students will be given three web sites to distinguish facts from myths
  • Students will compare facts/myths using a web
  • Students will write their findings into a paragraph
  • Students will present their findings to a student/teacher panel

 

Nov. 4-8, 2013 Reading and English

Reading – Students will read teacher selected stories and answer comprehension questions using reading strategies to locate answers in the text.

English – Students will  write the final copy of their personal narrative.

Working together as a class, students will identify  revision and editing mistakes in teacher selected passages.

Students will begin working on Reading comprehension in  Odyssey.

Oct. 28 – Nov. 1, 2013 Reading and English **Early Release 10/30/13**

Students will be working towards grade level TEKS according to their IEPs.

Students will be reading teacher selected stories and answering reading comprehension questions. Students will use reading strategies to locate information in the text.

English

Students will begin the writing process on a personal narrative. The POW + TREE mnemonic and graphic organizer chart will be introduced. The students will complete the personal narrative by Nov. 5th.

Students will apply the conventions of capitalization for proper nouns and abbreviations.

September 23 – 27, 2013 Reading and English

 

Students will be working towards grade level TEKS according to their IEPs.

Reading –  6th and 7th grader will read teacher selected stories and answer comprehension questions.

8th grade – read “Just Once” from Literature book. Students will provide support of their understanding of the main characters internal/external conflict.

English

Monday -Continue with Suffixes.

Tuesday – Present tense verbs

Wednesday – Past tense verbs with  -ed

Thursday – Past tense verbs with -ed, -ied

Friday – Irregular verbs

The classes have enjoyed researching facts about guinea pigs. You may have heard quite a few interesting facts about guinea pigs from your student. The kids loved  sharing the facts with the class. This week the students will write a rough draft, revise, edit, and write a final copy of their paragragh.
