All students will be working towards grade level TEKS according to their IEPs.

The students will be given a writing prompt and develop their paper using the writing process. I will be conferencing with the students daily. This assignment will take all week.

Students will read a teacher selected story and answer the comprehension questions.

Thursday and Friday – Students will be given the reading CLASS assessment.

Jan. 27-31, 2014 Reading and English

All students will be working towards grade level TEKS according to their IEPs.

Monday

Introduce autobiography, discuss details required in writing an autobiography. Class will read together the autobiography, The Firefighter.

Tuesday

Students will begin their personal autobiography using a chart.

Students will read with  the teacher selected stories.

Nov. 4-8, 2013 Reading and English

Reading – Students will read teacher selected stories and answer comprehension questions using reading strategies to locate answers in the text.

English – Students will  write the final copy of their personal narrative.

Working together as a class, students will identify  revision and editing mistakes in teacher selected passages.

Students will begin working on Reading comprehension in  Odyssey.

Oct. 28 – Nov. 1, 2013 Reading and English **Early Release 10/30/13**

Students will be working towards grade level TEKS according to their IEPs.

Students will be reading teacher selected stories and answering reading comprehension questions. Students will use reading strategies to locate information in the text.

English

Students will begin the writing process on a personal narrative. The POW + TREE mnemonic and graphic organizer chart will be introduced. The students will complete the personal narrative by Nov. 5th.

Students will apply the conventions of capitalization for proper nouns and abbreviations.

Oct. 7 – 11, 2013 Reading & ELA

All classes will begin studying the novel, Holes, by Louis Sachar. This week students will focus on characterization and the effects setting has on influencing the characters development.

Monday – Listen/read chapters 1-3. Using a T chart, the students will diagram the major characters physical and personality traits. Students will build upon the chart as they progress through the novel.

Tuesday – Listen/read chapters 4-7. Point of View  – First and third person

ELA – Pronouns – first and third person

Wednesday – Listen/ read chapters 8-11,  Influence of setting on characters

Thursday – Listen/read chapters 12-15,   Conflict : Internal and External

Using a web, students will diagram examples of characters internal and external conflicts.

Friday – Students will complete a venn diagram comparing two characters.

May 13-17 Reading and English

Students will be working towards grade level TEKS according to their IEPs.

Reading – Students will read aloud to the teacher selected stories. The students will answer comprehension questions.

Friday – Running records

English – Writing workshop – Personal Narrative

Monday – Students will select topic from writing prompt list and begin brainstorming ideas.

Tuesday – Using a graphic organizer, the students will begin their rough draft. Students will conference with teacher.

Wednesday – Students will revise and edit rough draft. Conferences will continue.

Thursday – Students will begin to type their personal narrative into Google docs.

Friday – Students will complete their personal narrative.

Please be aware that the posting of your child(s) grades will vary according to the subject area ranging from three (3) days to two (2) weeks determined by the complexity of the assignments. Minor assignments:  1-3 days; Major assignments:  3-5 days; Major writing assignments, major projects:   10 days.  Please check your child’s teacher website for additional information.

Students will read to the teacher the selected stories. This week the student will recall the important details from the story and organize them onto a summary star. After organizing the details, the student will work on an oral retelling of the passage.

Tuesday, Thursday Figurative Language -Alliteration

Teacher will give definition of alliteration and read examples from poetry books. Students will make up their own tongue twisters.

Teacher will show drawings of student’s work illustrating an alliteration which contains a noun, verb, and adjective. The students will select an alliteration and illustrate.

English

Students will write a personal narrative paragraph using the WWW W=2 How=2 chart to organize their writing.

 

 

 

January 7-11, 2013 Reading and English

Reading

Students will read aloud with the teacher selected stories based on their individual reading levels.

Students will predicate outcomes  by writing responses to the following questions:

“What would happens if…?”

“Judge the effects…?”

“Tell how much change there would be…”

English

Mon., Wed., Fri. – Lessons 3-4 from “Powerful Writing Strategies”

Tues. and Thurs. – Idioms

Students will select  figures of speech and create an illustration of their chosen idiom(s).
