All students will be working towards grade level TEKS according to their IEPs.

The students will be given a writing prompt and develop their paper using the writing process. I will be conferencing with the students daily. This assignment will take all week.

Students will read a teacher selected story and answer the comprehension questions.

Thursday and Friday – Students will be given the reading CLASS assessment.

April 1 – 5, 2013 *STAAR Testing, April 2 & 3, 8th & 7th grade

6th grade will follow their regular schedule. Read selected stories and work on combining sentences.

8th grade will take the STAAR Reading test

7th grade will take the second day of the Writing test

Thursday – *Reward lunch for meeting the Writing Rocket Challenge

Elements of Literature test – students will be allowed to use their notes

Please be aware that the posting of your child(s) grades will vary according to the subject area ranging from three (3) days to two (2) weeks determined by the complexity of the assignments. Minor assignments:  1-3 days; Major assignments:  3-5 days; Major writing assignments, major projects:   10 days.  Please check your child’s teacher website for additional information.

 

March 4-8, 2013 Reading and English

Monday

Students will add definition of Character and Characterization to Lit. of Elements book

Read/Listen to The Cay

6th grade – Students will draw or give written description of one of the main characters from The Cay.

7th and 8th grade – Student will write a descriptive paragraph about one of the main characters from The Cay.

Students  will write a daily journal entry based on Philip or Timothy’s first person point of view of living on the cay.

7th grade will meet in the Computer Lab at 2:00 to learn how to post their slide presentation on their blog.

Friday

Complete The Cay

If all classes are finished with the novel they will have a test  on The Cay, then write an alternative ending to The Cay.

 

 

Feb. 25 – March 1, 2013

Students will be working towards their grade level TEKS according to their IEPs.

Reading

All classes will begin the novel, The Cay, by Theodore Taylor.  All classes will record notes on the story characters, setting, point of view, conflicts,  theme, and events during the course of the novel onto a graphic organizer.

Monday

I will introduce the novel and the vocabulary prejudice and discrimination. The students will look up the meanings in a dictionary and write the meaning into their own words. Students will listen to chapters 1-3.  Students will chart plot elements onto graphic organizer.

Tuesday

Listen to chapters 4-6. students will chart plot elements onto graphic organizer. Students will answer questions to chapters 1-6.

Wednesday – Early Release Day
Listen to chapters 7-9. Chart plot elements, and answer questions to the chapters.

Thursday

Listen to chapters 10-13, chart plot elements, and answer questions.

Friday

The students will record the important details that they have learned about Philip and Timothy using the active reading chart.

English

Monday

Students will gather research data to support their position on the persuasive paragraph.

Tuesday

Students will begin typing their slide presentation.

Feb. 19-22, 2013 Reading and English

Students will be working towards their grade level TEKS according to their IEP.

The students will read aloud their selected stories, demonstrate reading strategies to locate answers in the reading, and answer the story comprehension questions.

 

English – Figurative Language Test, February 20
We will finish the Figurative Language study will the last two devices of Rhyme and Metaphor.

Tuesday – Friday – The writing project will probably take two weeks to complete.

6th grade – The students will be working on their Social Studies project of comparing the ancient civilizations of the Mayas, Incas, and Aztecs. They will  select and compile information from the Internet and printed sources. They will type the information onto their blog pages.

 

7th Grade – The students will begin an expository paper on an environmental issue. The students have selected their topic and will select and compile information from the internet and printed sources. They will type the information onto their blog pages. Students will chose the format of final product: report with poster, report with drawing, slide show, or power point presentation.

8th Grade – same as 7th grade assignment.

Dec. 3-7, 2012

The classes will begin working on the semester project of Christmas Around the World. I will provide internet sites focusing on five countries. The students this week will gather data from the internet, organize their data using  an outline, begin writing their rough draft.  I expect to spend about a week and a half on the project. The culminating activity will be a presentation of their report using a visual aide.
