Oct. 21-25, 2013 **Early Release Wednesday, October 23

Monday – Students will watch the first half of the movie, Holes. The students will take notes onto a venn diagram to compare and contrast the novel to the movie.

Tuesday – Students will watch the second half of the movie, Holes. The students will take notes onto a venn diagram to compare and contrast the novel to the movie.

Wednesday – Early release day. Class time will be adjusted for the shorter day. The class will analyze the elements of plot onto a plot graph.

Thursday – Class will work together to complete a Cause and Effect T-chart, citing examples from the novel.

Friday – Discuss and define Flashback. Class will cite examples of flashbacks used in the movie/novel, explaining the reasons why the author used the technique.

January 7-11, 2013 Reading and English

Reading

Students will read aloud with the teacher selected stories based on their individual reading levels.

Students will predicate outcomes  by writing responses to the following questions:

“What would happens if…?”

“Judge the effects…?”

“Tell how much change there would be…”

English

Mon., Wed., Fri. – Lessons 3-4 from “Powerful Writing Strategies”

Tues. and Thurs. – Idioms

Students will select  figures of speech and create an illustration of their chosen idiom(s).

Dec. 10 – 14, 2012

The classes will continue writing their expository paper on Christmas Around the World. The students will edit, reflect on their writing, and share their final writing with their classmates. The students will give an oral presentation, using their visual aide, to Mrs. Coones’ class on Tuesday/Wednesday.

Friday – Adjectives that compare

Reading

We will read The Polar Express on Wednesday – Friday

6 th Grade – Students will complete a time-line and retell the story. 7th and 8th Grade – students will  focus on the author’s use of sensory imagery to convey mood.

The culminating activity will be to watch the movie, comparing the books elements of imagery to the film.

 

 

October 29-Nov.2, 2012 Reading

Students will be working toward their grade level TEKS according to their IEPs.

All classes will have reading passages according to their reading level. The students will read their grade level texts with fluency and comprehension, determine the meaning of new words, and summarize the elements of plot.

Monday

6th grade –View the movie: Charlotte’s Web

7th grade –View the movie: The Dollhouse Murders

8th grade – complete the last two chapters of The Doll house Murders, take the final review.

Tuesday

Using a Venn diagram, the students will differentiate between the portrayal of a novel character and how they are depicted in the movie.

8th grade – view the movie The Dollhouse Murders.

Wednesday – Thursday

Read aloud teacher selected stories and answer comprehension questions.

8th grd will complete the movie and Venn diagram.
